Let’s be clear: no-one’s trying to truncate anyone’s childhood

Yesterday I picked up a business card that had caught my eye because the name of the business was pretty creepy:

Little Adults Day Care

Everything else about the business card sounded like the kind of daycare that, say, Learning Futures could really get behind – ‘Where children become independent’, the tagline promised. ‘Be Inspired’, it said in bold letters on the back.

Turning kids into ‘little adults’, is, to quote the Arctic Monkeys, exactly what the point is not. When we at the Innovation Unit, Whole Education, Learning Futures, GELP, and our other projects talk increasing learner independence, we’re not attempting to rush kids into adulthood, because independence is not the sole preserve of adults. Just wanted to clarify that.
